Rome: Cadel Evans Races to Tirreno-Adriatico Stage Race, Cancellara Grabs Time Trial

When in Rome…Oakley Cycling dominates.

O’s Aussie Star Cadel Evans emerged with the victory in the ancient city’s Tirreno-Adriatico Stage race on March 15 – after grabbing the overall race lead the previous Sunday. All while fellow Oakley’s World and Olympic Time Trial Champion Cyclist Fabian Cancellara sped his way into a San Benedetto del Tronto Time Trial triumph.

“First stage race of the year is done and a good start to 2011 if I say so myself,” Cadel said, rockin’ his Radar (and new Fast Jacket™ performance eyewear off the course).

Evans, who took third in the Tour of Spain (2009), was a bit concerned about allowing the overall victory to slip away due to rustiness.

“I was okay, it took me 2-3km to get into my rhythm, having eight months since my last ‘crono,’ not surprising, but a bit of a worry when you only have 6km to make for lost time. My time trial legs eventually got into gear, enough to hold onto my general classification position, and happily get the trophy.”

Meanwhile, Cancellara clocked a dominating 10 minutes, 33 seconds over the 5.8-mile individual time trial. Dutch rider Lars Boom finished second in the stage, nine seconds behind. Adriano Malori of Italy was third on the flat and straight course along the Adriatic coast.

Congrats to all Oakley riders on an awesome race in Rome!
