Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy took very little time to return to his winning ways following his recent PGA Championship victory at Kiawah Island. The young golfer secured the Deutsche Bank Championship just three weeks after his victory in South Carolina. In a hard fought battle with the likes of Luis Oosthuizen and Tiger Woods, McIlroy emerged victorious after shooting a final-round 67. His win in Massachusetts marked the third victory of the year for McIlroy and moved him to the top spot in the FedEx Cup standings.

McIlroy entered the final six holes on Monday with a three shot lead over Oosthuizen. The South African shot two birdies in that span to come within one of the lead as McIlroy had to sink a bogey putt on 17 to stay one shot ahead of Oosthuizen. McIlroy eventually held on to claim the victory at TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts.

“I had a couple of wobbles coming in,” McIlroy said. “But I obviously did enough and I’m very excited to get a victory.”

Defending his number one ranking, McIlroy came out swinging early, shooting two impressive rounds of 65 to open the tournament. He followed his exciting back-to-back rounds of 65 with two closing rounds of 67 to finish the tournament 20-under-par. His 264 strokes on the weekend were good enough to finish one stroke ahead of Oosthuizen and two in front of Woods. While hoisting a large trophy and claiming a cool $1.4 million for his victory on Labor Day, McIlroy looked comfortable back in the winner’s circle, while remaining humble.

“There’s a time and a place to celebrate and to enjoy what you’ve done, and going into the playoffs isn’t it,” said McIlroy. “This run that we’re on, we just have to keep thinking about the next week, and once Ryder Cup is over, for sure I’ll think back and I’ll celebrate and I’ll enjoy the great golf that I’ve played over the last few weeks.”

There is no doubt McIlroy has played some great golf over the past few weeks and throughout his young, impressive career. Congratulations to Rory on another remarkable win and best of luck during the remainder of the season.
