It only took a couple of weeks from the last time he slipped out of the top spot, but with his stunning performance at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow, Rory McIlroy is ranked number one in the world, once again. McIlroy has been playing a game of tag with friend Luke Donald, jumping back and forth from the top spot in golf’s world rankings. With Donald idle this past weekend, McIlroy set his eyes on the top ranking, needing only a top seven finish at the North Carolina based tournament to ensure he’d reign supreme once more. By losing in a playoff to fellow 23-year-old Rickie Fowler, McIlroy did that and then some. While McIlroy achieved the world number one ranking, the duo made names for themselves, letting the veterans know there is a crop of youngsters that are quickly becoming the players to beat.

Every golfer has nightmares of missing a one-foot put to win a championship. The only problem in Rancho Mirage, California was that I.K. Kim was awake and this was real. Kim had a one-foot putt on the 18th hole of the Kraft Nabisco Championship for par and the trophy and she did the unthinkable. Kim’s victory putt rimmed the cup and shot out back towards her, forcing her to tap in for bogey, erasing her one stroke lead. Oakley’s Sun Young Yoo was there, sporting her custom Flak Jacket sunglasses, one stroke behind the lead, ready to capitalize on Kim’s mistake. The tournament went to a playoff as a result of the epic miss and Yoo came out on top in the end.
