Oakley's Ai Miyazato Wins Her Third LPGA Championship In Mexico

Oakley’s Ai Miyazato of Japan clinched her third win this season at the Tres Marias Championship in Morelia, Mexico this past weekend.

She carded a six-under 67 to win, but her third title of the season was overshadowed by Lorena Ochoa’s last appearance before she heads into retirement.

Miyazato, whose 19-under total of 273 was one shot better than Stacy Lewis (66), cried as she thanked Ochoa, who had chosen the rising Japanese star to play with her in the first two rounds. A few feet away, Ochoa wiped tears from her eyes as well.

“She is one of my best friends,” Miyazato said. “I’m going to miss her.”

Miyazato will now prepare to compete at the World Ladies Championship, the first major tournament on the 2010 Japan LPGA Tour.

“The win last weekend is the past,” said Miyazato on her return to Japan. “I’m not going to be fixated on back-to-back wins. I will just try to focus on preparing myself well for the major.”

The four-day World Ladies Championship begins on this Thursday at Ibaraki Golf Club.
