Rafa Cabrera-Bello is a professional golfer currently playing on the European Tour. Born and raised in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain, Cabrera-Bello picked up the game of golf at a very young age and has enjoyed quite a lot of success ever since.
As an amateur, Cabrera-Bello dominated competition in his home country of Spain, winning the Spanish National Championship at every age group level from under 7 through under 18. Making a name for himself on the European Tour, Cabrera-Bello turned professional in 2005 at the age of 20. Since then, the Spaniard has wracked up an impressive five career professional wins, including the 2005 Canarias Professional Championship as an amateur, two wins on the Challange Tour (MAN NÖ Open 2006 and Credit Suisse Challenge 2008) and two wins on the European Tour (Austrian Golf Open 2009 and Omega Dubai Desert Classic 2012).
Cabrera-Bello joined the Oakley team in 2013 and can be seen rocking the new Oakley golf apparel and eyewear on both the European and PGA Tours.
Q & A
When did you first start playing golf? Where and why?
I was six years old. It was at my parent’s garden. My uncle showed up with a golf club and a ball, and I guess my dad experienced what everyone does, it looks easy to hit the ball but it really isn’t. My parents, my brother and sister and myself, all started playing together in the golf club next door, called Maspalomas golf, in Gran Canaria.
When did you turn pro?
What are the events, wins, memories that stand out most throughout your career so far?
Both European Tour wins. The first one in Austria because I shot an 11under (60 shots) on the last round to win by one. And the second one in Dubai because it was the one that catapulted me in the world rankings, giving me the opportunity to play in the biggest events and venues worldwide.
