Yong-Eun Yang captures his first PGA Tour win

Y.E. Yang was the first to finish the final round at last year’s Honda Classic. This time, South Korea’s Y.E. Yang, ranked No. 460 in the world, finished first.

Alone in the lead all day before a harried finish, Yang shot a 2-under 68 on Sunday to end up one shot ahead of John Rollins and pick up his first US PGA Tour victory.

Yang took command with three consecutive birdies on the front nine and wouldn’t fold. The win gives Mr. Yang a two-year exemption to play on the US PGA Your and also a winners check for one million eight thousand dollars. Also with the win, he qualified for next week’s CA Championship at Doral, plus earned an invitation to next month’s Masters Championship at Augusta National.

Y.E. played last year’s final round at PGA National by himself, going off first and needing only 1 hour, 53 minutes to finish. He was there until the very end this time, pumping his fist in the air when his 50-footer for birdie stopped a foot away from the cup, sealing the victory. He finished at 9-under 271.

For a guy whose claim to fame was beating Tiger Woods at the 2006 HSBC Champions in Shanghai, this was a moment to savor. But now, the son of vegetable farmers in Korea is a winner on the United States PGA Tour.

Congratulations Y.E.
