Change of Plans: 22-Year-Old Rookie, Derek Ernst Goes From Alternate To Wells Fargo Championship Winner

Derek Ernst took just eight tries to accomplish something that it takes some golfers years, if not a lifetime, to accomplish: win a tournament on the PGA Tour. The rookie, fresh off his four-year career at UNLV, was not even supposed to attend the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina when he received a phone call that would ultimately change his life. Just six days before the event began, Ernst received a call from the PGA telling him he was in the tournament as the fourth alternate. Ernst took full advantage of his last minute invite, leading a stacked field of seasoned PGA Tour veterans, ultimately hoisting the trophy for his inaugural victory on TOUR.

There is a new viral video being passed around at rapid speed, featuring Watson, minus his band mates this time around, with an exciting twist. The video has swept the nation this week, trending across all channels of media. You’ve most likely seen it already, but just in case you’ve been in a remote forest or hiding under a rock, void of any Internet capabilities, we’d like to share with you the story that is…”Bubba’s Hover!”

Spaniard Beatriz Recari Triumphs In Two-Hole Playoff To Win LPGA Kia Classic

Bringing a two-shot lead into the final round of the LPGA Kia Classic, Beatriz Recari most likely didn’t have eyes on winning the tournament in dramatic fashion. Slow and steady, banking on her impressive lead. That wasn’t the case however, as Recari finished Sunday’s round at Aviara in Carlsbad, California, tied for the lead with I.K. Kim. Both Recari and Kim three-putted the 18th hole to force a two-hole playoff. The two would repeat their performances on 18, during the first playoff hole, forcing another hole. That was when Recari sank an 18-foot birdie putt from the fringe to secure her second career LPGA title.

#VivaLaBubba (Watson) – Talk Of The Town At Waste Management Phoenix Open

If you were one of the record 179,000+ people who attended the Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament this past Saturday at TPC Scottsdale, in Arizona and you didn’t see, hear or come across the phrase #VivaLaBubba, there’s either one of two things going on here. One: You’re most likely described by your closest friends as “oblivious.” Or two: You need to consult your local physician for your issue with sleepwalking. Point being; Bubba Watson was everywhere! In human form, the 2012 Masters Tournament Champion could be found playing 18 holes with the greatest Olympian of all time, Team USA’s swimming star, Michael Phelps, in Wednesday’s Annexus ProAm. Or riling up the crowd at the iconic 16th hole during the PGA Tour tournament itself, asking for noise while most crave silence. In other forms, Bubba Watson and Oakley’s now catchy hashtag, #VivaLaBubba could be seen flying the Scottsdale skies in the form of a giant 40 foot by 80 foot banner trailing behind an airplane with the image of the Florida native’s face along side the catchy new term. From the event’s expo to Oakley’s Greenskeeper set up to the Oakley Skybox at the 16th hole and even a #VivaLaBubba street team following Watson on the course: it was #VivaLaBubba and Bubba Watson mania in the desert this weekend.

There’s no better term to describe Rory McIlroy than “on fire.” The young Northern Irishman has been on a role as of late and it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. As the golf world prepares for the Tour Championship and the conclusion of the FedEx Cup Playoffs in the upcoming weeks, McIlroy looks to be one step ahead of the game. The 23-year-old won his second tour stop in a row, claiming the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick on Sunday. Banking on his PGA Championship victory six days prior, McIlroy capped off another successful weekend with a final day 5-under 67 to hold off veterans Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood by two strokes on the weekend. This was McIlroy’s third Tour victory in his last four tournaments.
