Oakley Big Bass Tour Successfully Launched In Texas At Lake Conroe
The 2010 Oakley Big Bass Tour successfully launched last weekend in Texas at Lake Conroe, one of our country’s most famous bass fisheries.
The near perfect weather produced bass fishing conditions that drew nearly 700 amateur tournament anglers out to register and compete for the $100,000 in cash and prizes we had up for grabs.
Oakley’s Big Bass tournaments are simple but unique in format.
Basically, every hour a new tournament starts – starting at 7am going until 3pm.
Meaning, at the top of each hour any participant who catches a bass and brings it to the designated weigh-in area is in the contest for that hour. After that hour – a new hourly contest begins.
At the end of each hour the angler who has weighed-in the heaviest bass wins $1,000 in cash.
Second heaviest bass wins $500, third heaviest $300, fourth $200 and fifth $100.
This format carries on for seven hours on Saturday then another seven hours on Sunday. So, in essence, there are fourteen tournaments in one.
However, an angler only needs to catch one fish to win the grand prize – plus he has a chance to win every hour.
At the end of the tournament on Sunday afternoon the angler that has weighed-in the heaviest bass over the two days wins the grand prize – a $35,000 2010 Nitro Z8 Bass Boat with a 200 HP Mercury motor.
Now ya wanna come bass fishing – right ??
David Bozarth caught the winning bass that topped the scales at 12.63 lbs., he drove off in the brand new 2010 Nitro Z8.
Congratulations David !!
Record numbers of fish were caught and checked in over the two day of competition. Anglers caught and weighed-in 152 bass with a total weight of 812 lbs.
Not one fish was killed and all 152 bass were successfully released back into the lake. Over a dozen bass were checked in that weighed in excess of 9.5 lbs – that’s some amazing fish.
The whole event was centered around the Rolling O-Lab.
Participants and spectators alike were introduced to Oakley’s HD Polarized Optics through the test and demo’s provided by the O-Lab crew. Needless to say we turned more than a few people on to Oakley.
A huge thanks to all who participated and also to those who made this event possible:
O-Lab Crew, Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Mercury, MotorGuide, Lock-n-Haul, PowerPole and Lake Fork Trophy Lures and K-Star Country Radio.
We hope to see everyone at our next tournament on Lake Norman in Charlotte, NC on May 14,15, 16.
