Learn more about Lance and his partnership with Oakley at oakley.com/livestrong
There has never been an athlete like Lance Armstrong. One of the most driven and admired men of his generation, Armstrong’s resounding domination of his sport pales only in comparison to the indomitable power of his will to overcome all obstacles, seen and unseen.
Armstrong won his first triathalon at age 13 and turned professional at 16. He competed in his first long, 12-stage race in 1991, traversing 1,085 over 11 days, and though he finished in the middle of the pack, his performance heralded his arrival as a promising newcomer in the international cycling world. And that was only the beginning. Since then Armstrong has won the Tour de France (consider by many to be the hardest race in all of sport) seven times—all of them coming after his well-documented bout with testicular cancer—the Tour du Pont, the USPRO championship, a spot on the 1996 United States Olympic team, the world No. 1 ranking, and countless media –granted accolades.
In 2008, Armstrong was named one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential People, due in large measure to his formation of LIVESTRONG—a global movement dedicated to delivering a message of hope and empowerment to all, particularly those with cancer. Today, as Armstrong begins his drive for an eighth Tour de France yellow jersey, he continues to solidify his place in the history of his sport and in the hearts of cancer survivors around the world.
