More Gold on the Lake

Oakley UK’s Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter won the men’s Summer Games lightweight double scull in commanding style on Lake Shunyi yesterday, wearing custom red-white-blue Radars.

The pair pumped the air as they went over the finish line and Purchase stood up to wave to GB fans after holding off the fast finishing Greek crew who took silver. The double world champions from Denmark took bronze, just ahead of Italy.

It was the 13th straight win for the UK crew and the first for Britain in the lightweight doubles at the Summer Games. Hunter had to receive medical attention after clinching gold – his first in international rowing, eight years after he first joined Great Britain’s senior squad and 13 years after his first junior appearance.

“That was amazing,” he said. “Who said 13 was an unlucky number? We’ve got rid of that one. I just want to see that flag go up and hear the national anthem. I’ve been dying for that since I started rowing,” said Purchase. “10 years of hard work comes down to six and a half minutes or so of hell – but with a fantastic result”.

Zac and Mark, the latest acquisition to Oakley UK’s athlete team, dropped by the Oakley Safehouse last week (pictured) to collect their custom eyewear before stating, “we’ll be back for the gold watch”. See you soon lads…
