Caroline Buchanan is a multifaceted bike racer from Down Under. The Canberra, Australia native spends her time dominating both the BMX Racing and Mountain Bike circuits.

Spread out between both disciplines, Buchanan has an unprecedented five elite World Championships as well as fifteen Australian National Championships. Along with the aforementioned accolades, Buchanan can add “Olympian” to her title as she represented Australia at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

2013 was one of Buchanan’s most successful and busiest years to date. She aimed to win three world championships across 2 disciplines of mountain bike and one in BMX in a matter of 56 days. She won the BMX and MTB 4x World Championships, while taking fifth in the MTB Downhill competition.

As a result of her massive performances, Buchanan was presented with a number of prestigious awards in her home country, including: the Sir Hubert Opperman Trophy as Australian Cyclist of the Year, ustralian People’s Choice Cyclist of the Year, Elite Woman’s BMX Cyclist of the Year, and Elite Woman’s Mountain Bike Cyclist of the Year…to name a few.

Along with her passion for bikes on the dirt and pavement, Buchanan takes great interest in growing the sport of BMX by encouraging the younger generation to get involved in sport. She created the Buchanan Next Gen team for young girls looking to get into the sport of BMX. She has raised over $10,000 to send her team to the BMX World Championships in Rotterdam.

    Started racing Girl Pro in 2004 at 14 years old

  2. What are the events, wins, memories that stand out most throughout your career so far?

    Defending my consecutive fourcross mountain bike World Title 2009-2010, Winning the Swatch Global vote for favorite BMX Supercross Rider Of The Year, A finalist in the Young Australian Of The Year Awards...Racing in a Casino in Las Vegas USA and a bullfighting arena in Madrid Spain.

  3. If there’s one thing that people in the industry would recognize you by, what would that be?

    Being at the top international level in 2 cycling disciplines..BMX and Mountain biking.

  4. When did you first start riding? Where/why?

    Riding at 3yrs at 5years @ Tuggeranong BMX club Canberra Australia. I admittedly was a little tom boy following in her brothers footsteps.

  6. If you weren’t ripping on a bike, what kind of menial task would you want to do?

    Playing with my French Bull dog puppy

  7. If you had to date one person who would it be: “The Situation” from Jersey Shore, The Vampire in Twilight or Wee-Man (hey, some people like their guys bite-sized)?

    Richard Branson, so I could afford to ride my bike for the rest of my life :)

  14. A lot of riders never get to go to Prom, did you go, who did you take or who would you ask if you could go today?

    I was on a flight back from a race at the time of prom..landed and went straight to the after party. I never really got into the whole prom deal..just wanted to ride my bike. If I had to go now I would take Barry Nobles!

  15. What is something that you wouldn't normally tell someone about yourself?

    I dribble when I sleep....what?
