Art and Action Sports - Oakley Athletes Shine at X Games Barcelona

New York is lying. It isn’t the quintessential “city that never sleeps.” Really, that title should belong to Barcelona. Life on the Ramblas is never-ending; the clubs in the city seem to never close; the architectural wonders, the sight-seeing opportunities, the various means of entertainment are limitless. That cocktail of elements made the city the perfect first European host for an event that seems to consume every bit of energy that can be packed into a four-day window: Summer X Games.

Much like the magnificent Iguazu Falls nearby, the four days of X Games Foz do Iguaçu were not to be missed. Between the world-class action, the passionate crowds, the tropical climate, and the ear-ringing decibel levels, overall, the event was sensation-numbing in the best ways possible.

Dennis Enarson Finishes Second in Inaugural BMX Streetstyle at Dew Tour in San Francisco

Dennis Enarson was so close to taking home a win in a new discipline at Dew Tour Toyota City Championships in San Francisco. He had one last run to win it all. Though he nailed the run, the judges scores had him come up just short, and he settled for second.

“I just wanted to think of one solid run. The first two I messed up on, so it was nice to have a third run to get everything together,” Enarson said. He held nothing back in the last run, throwing down a high-speed flat ground 360, a huge gap to wall ride and a perfect backflip tailwhip over the box. He knew that he had to step it up and ended up pulling the exact run he had put together in his head, but it just wasn’t enough to hold on to first over Garrett Reynolds.

Heritage: Oakley’s BMX Roots Highlighted at Texas Toast Jam, Rider-Run Event Celebrates Core

Fact: There are always Frogskins at BMX events.

But at Odyssey’s Texas Toast Jam in Austin – despite the abundance of Oakley eyewear (of course) present on every other face, rider or fan – the most compelling stories can be found tucked away in the corners away from the modern dirt jumps, gnarly obstacles and vibrant street course.

Just off the main path on the venue grounds, a small, inconspicuous tent glows with rich history. Vintage racing bikes from yesteryear are displayed in all their storied glory. And there’s one symbol on hand, on more than one of the old bikes, that reflects not only the sport’s glorious past…but also the storied heritage of a Global Powerhouse brand. The Oakley Grip.

There simply is no better place to celebrate the brand’s roots in two-wheel sports than at an event so decidedly “core.”

Giant Froggies?! Oakley Rocks Texas Toast Jam BMX Extravaganza

Oh, the beloved Frogskins.

A timeless design that first sent shock waves through the BMX world back in the mid-80’s, the ever-popular “Froggies” are still as popular in the action sports and BMX world as they ever were. So popular, in fact, that a pair was blown up…big time…to “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” status for the Oakley-sponsored Texas Toast Jam event in Austin, Texas last week.

Featuring the best riders on the Planet, including Oakley’s own BMX Star Chase Hawk (qualified in first place, finished second overall), the extravaganza was graced by dirt jumping, street events, mini contests (bunny hop high jump and rail jam) and the much-hyped, super scary ‘Gauntlet of Death’ obstacle course – plus bands, food, drinks, after parties, a video premiere and more. Sufficed to say, it absolutely went off.

As a premiere obstacle in the Gauntlet of Death, the newly feared Froggies were as much of a death trap for riders as they were a super stylin’ addition to the landscape.
