Oakley's Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers Grab Second-Straight Gold
Oakley’s top-seeded Phil Dalhausser, wearing black flak jackets with black iridium lenses, and Todd Rogers won their second straight beach volleyball gold medal on the SWATCH FIVB World Tour on Sunday at the Myslowice Open in Poland. Oakley’s Adrian Gavira and Pablo Herrera of Spain earned silver.
Dalhausser and Rogers played the two-set 21-15, 21-13 win in 36 minutes. The win avenged a fourth-round loss to the Spaniards and earned them a total prize of $30,000.
“With fewer events on our domestic tour this season, we are playing more internationally this season,” Rogers told FIVB.org. “We have found our comfort zone with all the travel and are playing pretty consistently most of the time.”
The Americans advanced to Sunday’s final after beating Poland’s Grzegorz Fijalek and Mariusz Prudel in straight sets (23-21, 21-19) on Saturday, followed by a three-set (15-21, 21-11, 15-9) win over Germans Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann in the semifinals.
The 2008 Olympic champions have won three of the four international events on the schedule (Brasilia, Brazil and Rome, Italy are the other titles) and both domestic AVP Tour events that have been played thus far (Fort Lauderdale and Santa Barbara). They’ll return to the AVP Tour this weekend at Huntington Beach.
