It was a spectacle of massive hits Thursday at the Horse Guard’s Parade in London.

But although Brazilian bombers Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti threw down some of the most impressive kills of the evening, the two fell short of Germans Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann – who claimined a dramatic victory following an intensely heated battle (23-21, 16-21,16-14).

The impressive result marked the first-ever Beach Volleyball triumph at the Summer Games by a European team.

“That was a huge match with many highs and lows,” Reckermann said. “After we gave away the third match ball, my heart really sank. But the beach volleyball gods were on out side today.”

It looked easy. Way too easy.

In what may be her last Summer Games with her current partner (Misty May-Treanor), Kerri Walsh claimed her third straight Beach Volleyball victory in resounding fashion, smashing fellow Americans Jen Kessy and April Ross, 21-16, 21-16, to close out an utterly dominating campaign in London.

The long-time monster duo, combining stellar ball control, power and stature, demonstrated why they’ve been the class of the sport over such a long period of time.

“I’m really proud of finishing the journey with Misty the way we finished it,” Kerri said, with tears visibly forming.

So it’s only fitting that Oakley Volleyball Stars claim one of the most storied contest titles in the area’s vibrant history.

Casey Jennings – the husband of Oakley’s two-time Olympic Gold Medal Beach Volleyball Star Kerri Walsh-Jennings – and Brazilian partner Pedro Salgado smashed their way to the coveted Hermosa Beach Open Title in late September, topping Oakley’s Sean Rosenthal and Jake Gibb in the Final: 21-18, 21-17.

Teaming up last minute for the tournament, the two O bombers put on a dazzling display of amped up volleyball in front of a raucous South Bay crowd. The victory is the first Hermosa Beach Open success for Casey since 2005.

Oakley’s Larissa Franca and Juliana Silva topped fellow Oakley Beach Volleyball Star, Kerry, for the fifth time this year, claiming the Gold at The Hague Open in the Netherlands late August.

After leading the Brazilians most of the first set – Larissa and Juliana stormed back for four straight points to take the game. It was cruisin’ from there – as the South American duo pulled away after an eight-all tie for the 21-17, 21-15 victory.

O Showdown: Beach Volleyball Stars Larissa & Juliana Top Walsh & May at FIVB World Championships in Rome

There was fierce firepower on both sides of the net.

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships went down in Rome with the powerful Oakley Brazilian duo of Larissa Franca and Juliana Silva facing off against fellow Olympic Star Kerri Walsh and her partner Misty May-Treanor. And as expected, it was a battle to the end. But the South American pair edged their American counterparts, 21-17, 13-21, 16-14, to claim their first Gold in the ancient city.

The vibrant Brazilians lost twice in the World Championship Finals up to this year, including 2005 when they ran up against the wall that was May-Treanor and Walsh. They also secured a bronze medal in 2007. But this year, they were in form and a handful for anyone on the Planet to face.

Oakley’s Beach Volleyball Star Phil Dalhausser (and partner Todd Rogers) picked up right where they left off last season with a crushing season opener victory in Brasilia, topping Brazilians Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti, (21-18, 21-13) for the Gold in a mere 35 minutes of finals action.

The American pair topped the “home team” on their own turf for the second year in a row, after taking an intense round four showdown that stretched out to three games (16-21, 21-19, 15-11).

On the women’s side of the net, Oakley’s Volleyball Star Kerri Walsh and long-time partner in domination Misty May-Treanor appeared together as a pair professionally since 2008 – when both Olympic Gold Medalists took breaks from their careers to start families.

Considering the amount of time passed since playing together, Brasilia was more than solid as they blasted their way to finals to challenge fellow Oakley athletes and Brazilians Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca.
