Oakley and Major League Baseball®, Another Great Combination
On July 26th and 27th, Oakley was invited to team up with Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. This year’s induction honored Rich Gossage, known to most as “Goose”. Goose, the only player to be inducted this year, drew quite the crowd. Cooperstown expected around 15 to 20,000 people this year, including fans of all ages, tons of autograph hounds, and some past Hall of Famers. Some of baseball’s greats could be seen around town: Yogi Berra, Willie Mays, Pete Rose, Bob Fellar, Ryne Sandberg and many others. 56 Hall of Famers were in attendance this year, a record amount.
This was Goose’s third time through the truck. When we asked Goose what he thought of The O Lab after seeing it so many times, his reply was “this thing is awesome!” Goose came through with Dick Williams, the only other live inductee this year. Dick is being inducted as a manager into the Hall of Fame.
Goose spent 23 years in the pros, playing for 9 major league teams and even 1 in Japan. He was in 3 World Series, had 9 All Star appearances, and a National League Pennant. He won The Sporting News AL Fireman of the Year while with the White Sox and Rolaids Relief Man of the Year while he was with the Yankees.
Goose spent 7 great seasons with the New York Yankees and that will be forever remembered with a Yankee cap on his Hall of Fame plaque. This was his 9th year up for H.O.F. induction, and he was named on 85% of the ballots out of the 543 cast. Quite the majority, well surpassing the 75% needed.
With over 200 people and players through the Lab and a private filming with MLB.com, this was very successful event.
We wanted to give a BIG thanks to John Bullis at Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce, Goose Gossage, Dick Williams, Zach “the basket” Weever, and the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
