Yankees Pitching

Rich Monteleone, Yankees Assistant Pitching Coach and stand out rookie pitcher Edwar Ramirez came to Oakley headquarters and received the insider tour from the King of O Tours, Louie Dimaria.

Monteleone was the first round pick for the Detroit Tigers in the 1982 draft, and pitched for the Seattle Mariners, California Angels, New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants for ten big league seasons. He started coaching in 1996 for the Yankees, where he has remained ever since – resulting in four World Series Championship rings.

Ramirez made his major league debut on July 3rd of this season against the Minnesota Twins where promptly stroke out the side in order. Edwar at only a 150 pounds on a six foot three inch frame brings the heat with his 26-year-old right arm. In just 8 and 2/3 innings of relief pitching for the Yankees this season Edwar has 14 strikeouts. Edwar wears Oakley’s prescription eyewear on the Half Jacket XLJ frame. When asked why he chose Oakley for his Rx eyewear for on the field play, Ramirez had this to say, “I have tried so many different brands of eyewear and once I put on the Oakley’s the fit and vision was truly unmatched. I am really happy with the product and proud to wear such a quality product.”

The tour Rich and Edwar received was second to none, from the R&D testing to walking the guys through the entire process of making Oakley frames and lenses, Louie delivered. Rich was truly blown away, stating, “I had no idea so much went into making Oakley eyewear. It is great to see that the whole process from the very start takes place right here in your main headquarters.”

That evening Monteleone hooked up his good friend, Ryan Evert (Oakley Rolling O Lab Manager), Katie Mundell (Oakley Int’l Retail Visual Merchandising Manager) and myself with field access credentials to take in batting practice. It was amazing to watch the players from the field level, everyone from Roger Clemens to Joba Chamberlain (top rookie) were wearing Oakley sunglasses. At least a dozen Yankee players and coaches were wearing Oakley eyewear. And for a die-hard Yankees fan like myself and Ryan it was truly a great night, especially hooking up a childhood hero Don Mattingly with our new Nanowire 2.0 sunglass (which he put on immediately).

A big thank you to Rich for the field access, Ryan for introducing us to Rich and Louie for the insane tour of Oakley headquarters.
