White Wins 7th Gold

A blanket of snow fell on Buttermilk Mountain as a Oakley’s, Shaun White, put on a world-class display tonight at the Snowboard SuperPipe Men’s Final to close out ESPN Winter X Games 12.

“It feels medieval,” White said. “It feels so great, man.”

Leading the field going into his final run, but facing the prospect of another jaw-dropping run by the number one qualifier, Japanese shredding phenom Ryo Aono, White laid down a SuperPipe display that earned him a 96.66, and the gold.

White’s run included a frontside big air, front- and backside 1080s, and – to top it off – a frontside 1260 at the bottom of the pipe.

“Everything was awesome tonight,” White said. “The best part of X Games is the crowd. Man, you’re getting ready to take your run and you hear everybody cheering at the bottom.”

Aside from Shaun’s complete domination of the Superpipe during finals, Oakley was also represented by Danny Kass – sporting his new signature goggle, Kazuhiro Kokubo – sporting his signature goggle and Kevin Pearce – sporting Terje Haakonsen’s new signature goggle for Fall ’08.

Pearce finished his long week of shredding in three competitions, something no one had done before him with a third place finish in Superpipe. The end result for his hard wrok was pretty amazing – Silver in Slopestyle, Bronze in Superpipe and Runner-up in Big Air. Definitely expect KP to continue his onslaught of contests throughout the rest of ’08.
