On Fire: Slayer Mark McMorris Dazzles in Snowboard Slopestyle, Snatches Second Winter X Games Gold
Mark McMorris is officially on fire.
Oakley’s team ripper, just a day after claiming the Gold in Snowboard Big Air, tantalized an already-pumped crowd with a masterful aerial display that would land him the Snowboard Slopestyle triumph with a monster 93.00 overall score.
The two coveted gold medals were his first…ever.
“I didn’t have any expectations coming in this year,” a smiling Mark said, rocking his Oakley snow goggles and gear. “I just wanted to ride like I can and land my tricks. That is all I come out to contests to do is to have fun and try and land the run I have in my head. That was able to happen two nights in a row and it was able to happen on a good weekend at X Games. Now I have a big smile on my face.”
The rival that came closest to matching his dazzling early runs in the final, Sage Kotsenburg, made his last charge in his final run with an 88.00 score. But it wasn’t enough to match Mark’s seemingly untouchable performance from the get-go.
Coming out of the gates with a 90.00 score, he topped it all off with a 93.00 after run 2 with a frontside 180 onto a cargo container, Cab 270 into wallride, frontside bluntslide to 450 out in the technical rail section, then finally sealing the deal into the four-hit jump line with a Cab double cork 900, a frontside double cork 1080, a double “wildcat” backflip and a backside 1260.
“The second run was the run I’d planned,” he said, following his victory lap. “Everything kind of worked out and I got to cruise my last run. That’s what I find most fun in snowboarding, is having fun.”
Congratulations to Mark on what has been an epic Winter X Games tear!
