Kiwi’s Back! Freestyle Motocross Star Levi Sherwood Claims Stunning Victory at Red Bull X-Fighters Season Opener in Dubai
It’s been two long years for Levi Sherwood.
With injuries, setbacks and other challenges now in the rear view mirror, Oakley’s Freestyle Motocross Star claimed his first Red Bull X-Fighters victory since 2010, stunning a packed crowd of more than 20,000 spectators on the sands of the world-renowned Jumeirah Beach in Dubai (United Arab Emirates).
Throwing down a turntable, complex combos like a backflip Hart attack one-hander, stylish and fully extended holy grabs, recliners and Superman airs in an intense head-to-head final matchup with Rob Adelberg, he emerged victorious in grand fashion.
“It means a lot,” Levi said, rocking his Oakley Motocross Goggles. “I haven’t really ridden many contests lately and didn’t have much confidence coming into it… it’s a cool little boost.”
Fellow Oakley star Dany Torres of Spain, charged into the night as the clear favorite for the win. But Levi was in top form, taking Dany out in the quarterfinals. Josh Sheehan of Australia was the next victim in line – fully knocked out in the semifinals to send Levi into the final stretch.
Storming onto the scene back in 2009 as a 17-year-old prodigy, the Kiwi (New Zealand native), his last triumph took place in Moscow – the same year he grabbed a silver medal in Moto X Freestyle as an X Games rookie, following a head-to-head battle with the legendary Travis Pastrana.
It’s safe to say that Levi’s back – and a force to be reckoned with on the six month X-Fighters Tour.
