Three-Peat! Ski Star Kaya Turski Claims Winter X Games Slopestyle Gold
It wasn’t a usual walk in the park for Kaya Turski.
But the defending Women’s Slopestyle Champion charged back from behind in the final round of the contest on Thursday – racking in a 95.00 to claim her third-consecutive Winter X Games Gold Medal in the event. She’s the first woman ever to have accomplished the feat.
“I’ve never seen the level so high as I’ve seen it today,” Kaya said, rocking her Oakley eyewear and gear. “Everyone is taking training seriously, eating well, and working hard, it’s going to be a crazy couple of years.”
But it wasn’t anywhere as easy as it had been in the past.
Usually dominant with her first score of the finals, this year’s field put up a stiff challenge until the very last run. Kaya fended off attacks by 18-year-old Devin Logan, whose massive 92.33 kept the lead, with the entire Global Audience on their toes for a possible upset.
Going into her final run, Kaya was sitting in third…and in a position of “do or die.”
And she did. Big time – as she threw down a switch 1080 off the final jump, combined with a smooth overall run, to seal the deal.
“The switch 10 is definitely raising the bar, Anna (Segal) spinning both ways is raising the bar, Devin (Logan) getting inverted is as well, the level is getting really high, I’m just excited were pushing the sport, I think were all doing a good job of that."
Congratulations to Kaya for the three-peat!
