The South African prodigy born and raised in the hard knocks of Durban, South Africa has begun to leave a legacy as a competitive beast in his young career. The powerful natural-footer proved to be one of the most consistent surfers on the 2010 ASP Dream Tour season, clawing his way to an impressive runner-up finish to Kelly Slater while taking his maiden elite event win by snagging the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay, putting an exclamation point on his third season on the Top 34. “It was just f**king amazing to be a part of what just happened tonight,” said Torstein Horgmo, a gold X Games medal dangling from his neck, and still slightly winded after the 18-minute jam session Big Air final. Trailing Oakley teammates Stale Sandbech and defending gold medalist Mark McMorris throughout the final, Horgmo – who won the event in 2011 – had one last chance to land the move he believed would be the difference-maker: the switch backside triple cork 1440, a trick he landed for the first time a week before coming to Aspen and one that had never been landed in competition.

Imagine you’re some young skier who frequents a smallish mountain resort, one with just one or two rails and a couple small jumps. Nothing that’s going to garner attention or headlines in any of the big magazines or be a potential venue for X Games. Then, one day, a handful of top twin-tip freeskiers show up and hang and shred with you and all your friends for the day – riding up the lifts together, hitting the rails together, having lunch and getting autographs. That exact scenario is coming to fruition at 50 resorts throughout North America as part of the Inspired Demo Tour. Henrik Harlaut, Phil Casabon and Paul Bergeron are among the crew of pros helping to spread the twin-tip vibe, and grow and strengthen the presence of the sport along the East Coast, in the Midwest and in Canada.

She’s talented, she’s the best kind of extrovert, and the stunning blonde from Switzerland is easy on the eyes. Anne-Flore Marxer kind of has it all going for herself. Between the building and hitting of huge jumps, hitting the clubs, shredding pow and outracing mini avalanches, you can get a window into her world (at least her world in 2012) in her recently-released full part from Standard Films.
