Undoubtedly one of the biggest names in freeskiing, Simon Dumont began to make a name for himself at the age of 15. Just two years later he won his first Winter X Games Gold Medal and has remained one of the most fierce and talented competitors the sport has seen. A career wrought with so much competitive success has not come without its obstacles. Simon has suffered shattered ankles, a broken pelvis and collarbone, and a ruptured spleen, among countless other less severe injuries.     So after a week of almost non-stop snow, clouds, fog, rain and ice the skies parted to provide an epic day of sunshine. The result was perhaps one of the best slopestyle contests in X Games history with the highest score in history being broken not once, but twice!

    Unlike their counterparts in the ski division, the women’s snowboard slopestyle contest saw the first sunny skies of the competition at 2011 European Winter X Games. This year’s results would prove different as defending champion and top Oakley snowboarder Jenny Jones entered the competition with an injury sustained in practice at the US Open last week. Jones would come in eighth place, but was cheered on wildly by her ever present British fan base at the bottom of the course.

    Once again mother nature wreaked havoc on the days events postponing men’s snowboard slopestyle elimination round to tomorrow and pushing back all of the contests by several hours. By the time women’s snowboard superpipe finals started it was still puking snow from above with the addition of a wonderfully strong wind. To say conditions were not ideal would be an understatement, especially considering the riders have been bragging all week that this is one of the best superpipes they have ever ridden.
