Simon Dumont

Action Sports

Undoubtedly one of the biggest names in freeskiing, Simon Dumont began to make a name for himself at the age of 15. Just two years later he won his first Winter X Games Gold Medal and has remained one of the most fierce and talented competitors the sport has seen. A career wrought with so much competitive success has not come without its obstacles. Simon has suffered shattered ankles, a broken pelvis and collarbone, and a ruptured spleen, among countless other less severe injuries. Despite all the rehab and rebuilding of his body, nothing has been able to keep Simon off his skis for long or scare him into dialing back his degree of commitment. The Pro Wakeboard Tour hit Texas. And as expected, it was big. Case in point: Oakley Wake Team Star Amber Wing, whose 66.77 score topped fellow O Team Ripper Nicola Butler to take command of the Pro Women’s Queen of Wake point standings (290 points). “I thought Nicola had it; I was cheering for her,” Amber said, rocking her Oakley gear and eyewear. “But I did my run, stood up both my passes and came out on top. I’m really pumped to win this tour stop.” In the Pro Men’s Division, O’s young phenom Harley Clifford threw down as always amidst a talent-packed heat in the finals – including fellow Oakley rider and rail master Oli Derome. Harley’s 95.00 score after a killer run seemed to have seal the deal. But the former King of Wake Points Leader was edged by Phil Soven, whose 95.50 narrowly took the victory.

Oh, the beloved Frogskins. A timeless design that first sent shock waves through the BMX world back in the mid-80’s, the ever-popular “Froggies” are still as popular in the action sports and BMX world as they ever were. So popular, in fact, that a pair was blown up…big time…to “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” status for the Oakley-sponsored Texas Toast Jam event in Austin, Texas last week. Featuring the best riders on the Planet, including Oakley’s own BMX Star Chase Hawk (qualified in first place, finished second overall), the extravaganza was graced by dirt jumping, street events, mini contests (bunny hop high jump and rail jam) and the much-hyped, super scary ‘Gauntlet of Death’ obstacle course – plus bands, food, drinks, after parties, a video premiere and more. Sufficed to say, it absolutely went off. As a premiere obstacle in the Gauntlet of Death, the newly feared Froggies were as much of a death trap for riders as they were a super stylin’ addition to the landscape.
