It’s official: Curren Caples is on the verge of becoming a big deal in skateboarding. He’s had the Jay Adams comparisons from his surf/skate background and longish dirty-blonde hair and a nod from his peers, but now, with what came of his 2013 contest season, he’s officially arrived. The Ventura, Calif. native has been the talk of the town since making his X Games debut in 2010 and the hype continues to grow now that he made the jump into the pro ranks at the 2013 Tampa Pro. At the 2010 X Games, Caples became the first male competitor to be born after the yearly events debut in 1995 and was the youngest athlete competing that year on the pro level. In 2013, Caples’ signature blend of style and technical street tricks earned him a Silver Medal in Barcelona and then his first-ever Gold in Munich. It appears Caples is ready for what’s coming; the smiles and peace signs abound. At just 17, he’s already set the bar pretty high, and for those who know what good skating is about, the consensus is that Caples is going to be something special in that world.
