Eric Koston and Oakley Launch the EK Collection in NYC
Although legitimate influencers are found few and far between, Eric Koston has steadily earned that title throughout his prolific skateboarding career. Aside from capturing titles and winning awards in almost every major competition, the celebrated skater has played a key role in the progress of skateboard footwear and apparel with an extensive list of top brands that now includes Oakley with the launch of his first EK EYEWEAR COLLECTION. Not only has Koston’s influence transcended skateboarding and encompassed all of action sports, but he has also paved the way for a younger generation of skaters, artists, fashion forward thinkers and the culture of skateboarding.
On this night (as on many nights before and likely many nights to come), Eric Koston had great reason to celebrate. The announcement and release of his new signature EK Collection with Oakley, which consists of an Eric Koston Frogskin, Plaintiff and Holbrook sunglasses coupled with the release of the teaser for his Epicly Later’d webisode series with Vice Magazine and Oakley’s 1242 Productions. Upping the ante during the celebration of Go Skateboarding Day in New York City, Oakley and Vice Magazine hosted a meet and greet with Eric himself on the rooftop of the new Standard Hotel. Mr. Koston, friends, family and the skateboarding community in whole took to the rooftop and proceeded to join our gracious host in an event toasting his accomplishments.
Attendance was off the charts as tons of folks turned out to show Eric their love and get a first glimpse of the Oakley EK Collection. Erik Ellington, Alex Olson, Steve Berra, Atiba and Ako Jefferson aka The Blackouts were among the special guest along side an onslaught of professional skaters, fans, friends, shops and media.
All in all it was a great event that sent guests home with an even greater respect for Eric, a desire to see more from Epicly Later’d and a hunkering for a new pair of EK Oakley glasses.
