Rookie of the Year: Surf Star Julian Wilson Claims Coveted ASP Honor After Super Consistent Season
It’s hard to imagine that just a short time ago, in 2010, that a young Julian Wilson was wondering if he’d make the cut for the WCT.
Those days are long gone.
As one of the most consistent performers on the 2011 Tour, which included dazzling performances at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast and the Hurley Pro at Lowers (Trestles in Southern California) Julian placed his budding star power into the spotlight.
As one of the most popular surfers in the world, he finished 9th overall in the ASP World Title Race, solidifying his place amongst the very best.
Even better – to kick off what will be a super intense battle for the top of the standings in 2012, he smashed out of the gates on fire – emerging victorious in early February at the Breaka Burleigh Pro qualifying event by topping the likes of Mick Fanning, Josh Kerr and Bebe Durbidge.
There’s no doubt that he’s on track to battle for the chance to stand amongst the top rippers for the Title.
Congratulations to Julian from the entire Oakley family!
