Dumont Cup Wrap-Up: Oakley’s Joss Christensen Podiums, Taking Third At Simon Dumont’s Pro-Am Thriller In Maine
It was more like beach than ski weather in Sunday River, Maine this weekend for the 4th Annual Dumont Cup. That didn’t stop some of the world’s best professional skiers and budding amateurs from hitting the slopes and throwing down some of the sickest tricks the sport has to offer. The newly awarded AFP platinum status event is hosted every year by Oakley skier and Maine’s own, Simon Dumont. This year the competition was thick, the weather was warm and the atmosphere was rockin.
Highly touted as one of the best skiers on the planet, Oakley athlete Simon Dumont will host the 4th Annual Dumont Cup this weekend at the Sunday River Resort in the mountains of Newry, Maine. Originally created to showcase some of the best skiers in the New England area, the Dumont Cup has quickly turned into one of the most highly anticipated ski competitions of the year. The unique event allows for both amateur and professional skiers from around the world to display their skills at the highest level. Further proving its importance, this year the Dumont Cup has been elevated from gold to platinum status by the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP).
Oakley sleighs it at Winter X Games. Literally. Exhibit O: The super private media event on Tuesday night, where Oakley Team Snowboard and Ski Stars took industry reporters on a horse-drawn sleigh ride to the ultra-remote Pine Creek Cookhouse. Literally in the middle of nowhere, Snowboard Team Rippers Eero Ettala, newly-signed Maddy Schaffrick, Gretchen Bleiler, Kohei Kudo and Matt Ladley – as well as Ski Star Simon Dumont – dined with and chatted with the media about the coming X Games contest this week and Oakley’s 2012 snow apparel/gear line. All following a chilly and undeniably memorable journey by slay in the dark of night in the outskirts of Aspen.
