Oakley's Daron Rahlves Joins Big Mountain Freeskiers In Alaska

Our ride

Oakley’s Daron Rahlves recently took a trip to Alaska to meet up with Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Seth Morrison and Ian McIntosh to film for Teton Gravity Research’s new film, “Light The Wick.” From down time and eating Alaskan style meals to discovering new off-the-beaten track steep lines, Daron fills us in on his heli -ski adventure.

In the world of big mountain free skiing Alaska is tough to beat.  The AK experience is all about skiing big vertical runs on the smoothest velvety snow you can imagine and finding very unique terrain.  Valdez and Haines are well know heli ski destinations that have incredible terrain and are perfect for heli operations to shuttle skiers to all the goods.  So good that it becomes a challenge for a film crew to ski what no one else has.  So TGR decided to get out of the rat race and find their own terrain in AK all by themselves, undisturbed like the good old days.  They gambled on an untouched zone in AK and uncovered another spectacular area which I was very fortunate to be part of.
