Bio

Seth Morrison has enough rock-star footage and flattering industry sound bites to create an acclaimed documentary from an editing bay. But that would be too easy. As a skier and innovator, Morrison continuously looks ahead, so it comes as no surprise that his documentary “The Ordinary Skier” (released Fall 2011) should do the same.

Morrison seeks new challenges not as means of maintaining sponsors, but because reinventing himself is what Seth does. And he did just that in Chamonix over the past two seasons, where he delved into a new chapter of his career – ski mountaineering. Morrison pushed his comfort zone and skied some of Chamonix’s most notorious and consequential lines.

While filming “The Ordinary Skier,” he continued filming with his longtime film partner, Teton Gravity Research, cranking out segments that never fail to fire up the ski movie crowd.

Seth puts the “professional” in pro skier. Skiing is his part of his life: seven days a week, every month of the year. If he’s not on snow, he’s planning his next trip, fulfilling sponsor obligations, developing better equipment or mountain biking to stay fit.

At 38 years of age, Morrison isn’t one for exaggerations, over-claiming or complaining. He knows his ski objectives are subject to mother nature and that a trip to Alaska might mean two weeks of lodge arrest before flying. He understands that luggage doesn’t always appear in baggage claim. And he realizes the dangers and inherent risks of skiing for a living.

When he’s not on the road, Morrison is based out of Frisco, Colorado, lapping East Vail silently and swiftly. One day he’ll relocate to a cabin he’s building in the mountains above Crested Butte.

In addition to his Oakley Signature Series Crowbar goggle and Pro Rider Series apparel (Primed Jacket and Pant), Morrison and K2 re-designed the ObSETHed ski http://blogs.powdermag.com/buyers-guide-2011/2011-k2-obsethed-skis/. He also launched a backpack from Black Diamond and a pro model Troy Lee Designs helmet.
