An experience that most would deem absolutely frightening, was one which elicited smiles and laughs from Andreas Fransson and his friend, Morgan Sahlén. In Andreas’ words: “Last spring the Salén brothers and myself went to the Lyngen Alps in the north of Norway for three weeks of ski touring and ski mountaineering. We were extremely lucky with the conditions and even though we had to turn around a lot, we managed to pull off six first descents and experience the magic of this amazing place among friends.”

Dany Torres has Freestyle.ch FMX on lock. Heading into the 2012 event in Zurich, he was the reigning three-time winner, and therefore wearing a bull-sized target on his back. Despite any added pressure or stakes, Torres did just as he’s done for years, flying higher and pulling smoother tricks than anyone else in the event. Flintstone flip, turn down, dead body indy flip and an execution flip. All pulled beautifully. Dany Torres: four-time champ.

Performance boundaries: they seem to have been forgotten in Big Air skiing. Take this past weekend’s Freestyle.ch in Zurich, Switzerland and compare what was being done with what was happening a decade or even just five years ago. That rapid evolution: absurd. And yet, there was Henrik Harlaut soaring and pulling off his patented nose-butter double 12 for a score of 95.75 to take first place. And he was in good company, joined on the podium by fellow Oakley team riders Kai Mahler (second, 95.5) and Phil Casabon (third, 91.25).

It’s that talent, though, that draws the attention of fans and fellow riders. It’s also the reason why this past Thursday he was awarded the Number One Dirt Jumper of the Year at Ride BMX’s 16th Annual NORA Cup Awards held in Las Vegas.
