The result of more than six years of grinding at the intersection of attitude without remorse and just plain born to be respected. In order to push our idea of elevating physics to an art form to new heights, we had to get down in the pits.

The 6 year odyssey of Pit Boss
Design, develop, deliver? Not exactly. At one point Pit Boss was put on the shelf for more than a year. But good ideas are hard to keep in storage.

CONCEPTS
While brainstorming, anything goes. And while idea-surfing on open water, the concept became clear: take a very fluid sculpture – and dissect the ways to make it come to life.

PUZZLE
Concept phase complete. The culmination of all the ideas taking its original shape. A design with the right proportions – doing exactly what we wanted it to do.

‘Good enough’ is never enough. Back to the drawing board with simplification on the designer’s mind.

A time for tweaking. For finding something more. End result: lines between the parts to create more depth.

With the lens shape refusing to shape up, it was changed. This iteration continued to bend science, further opening the part lines.

Final. Actual. What you see today. Implementing a third element: the orbital screw. Simplified once more.
A Four Part Act
No two plates are the same. The components involved required a ton of developmental work. And the process of putting it all together necessitated advanced, manual hand work. Add it all up: it had never been done before.
O Matter + Titanium
The forged titanium plates get stamped seven times. Each stamp comes backed by more than 200 tons of pressure. They’re also annealed at 700 degrees Celsius. Then they get snapped onto the O Matter® stems.
Orbital Screw
The slightest bit of stress can make HDO go crazy. So the front orbital screw takes stress off the lenses to make sure you see clearly.
Hexalobular
Machining the Mushroom: weld, buff, mill, buff. Rinse and repeat. Equipping with High Definition Optics® was no easy feat.

After six years of playing with this thing we didn’t leave anything out. Pit Boss is packed with High Definition Optics and a combination of all our lens technologies. That means you’re getting Polarized, Hydrophobic, Oleophobic and anti-reflective lenses. Also available with Oakley Authentic Prescription Lenses.
