Bob and Mike Bryan captured their third title of the season, defeating second seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic 3-6, 6-4 10-8 in the final of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Sunday in Rome.
This is the first title at the Foro Italico for the Bryan twins. Twice before they have finished as runners-up in Rome, falling to Michael Llodra-Fabrice Santoro in 2005 and to Fabrice Santoro-Nenad Zimonjic last year.
“Feels great to win Rome, especially after being in the finals three times,” said Mike Bryan. “I think it’s maybe our tenth time here, so it’s finally nice to knock that one down, especially against a good team: Nesty and Zimo. I mean, it came down to the wire today.”
The Bryan twins have now amassed 47 ATP doubles titles, including 12 ATP Masters Series titles. The 30-year-olds won their first title of the season, and their 11th AMS title, at the Sony Ericsson Open in April (d. Knowles/Bhupathi), before capturing their second title last week on clay in Barcelona (d. Fyrstenberg/Matkowski).
