Operation Snowflake Picnic – Hawaiian Style

With summer slowly creeping to an end, the kids from Snowball Express celebrated with a Hawaiian-themed luau at the 2012 Snowflake Picnic in Irvine, CA on August 14. More than 65 military families traveled from all over Southern California to unite their children with others that have experienced the loss of a parent on active duty since 9/11.

As the families arrived they were excited to try on their custom Snowball Express Oakley Hijinx and XS Five eyewear. Additionally, with the help of 30 Oakley volunteers, the children filled their new Oakley Base Load backpacks with an assortment of school supplies. Oakley volunteer, Kevin Alcaraz, said, “It was amazing to see the kids faces as they spent time with other kids who had been through similar experiences. It felt good to help them out and make sure they have a great end to their summer.”

Throughout the day kids had a blast learning how to hula, getting their faces painted, riding ponies and taking pictures with Elmo. Families enjoyed a great BBQ, a softball game with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and a special guest appearance by iCarly’s Noah Munchk.

Snowball Express is a non-profit organization that started in 2006 with a simple idea: provide hope and new memories to the children of military fallen heroes who have died while on active duty since 9/11. To learn more about Snowball Express visit www.snowballexpress.org.
