Blade & Board Short Testing Las Flores, El Salvador

Las Flores, El Salvador

In preparation for the North American release of our BLADE board short we thought we better put our product thru the extensive testing that makes our product first and foremost work, while showing some key retailers what goes into the process. While California is starting to get some spring time temperatures the water is still too cold for boardshorts, so we decided to head south to Central America. The first day saw Tim Claydon Oakley Nor Cal Rep arrive with Bubb “yes that’s my real name” Rader of Pacific Wave in Santa Cruz, CA score a session to themselves at Las Flores point. Jason Prescott of SurfRide in Oceanside, CA arrived on the first direct flight and early enough for a kick off surf! The crew was greeted by Marty Mathiesen our Action Sports Regional Sales manager – super stoked to get in the water. Quickly enough Jason and Marty were into some boardshorts and into the water to help wash off the haze that overnight travel to a foreign country puts you into. Next to show up was Aaron Quigley, Lawrence Quigley, Luke Walsh and Yogi Ybarra to round out the Oakley INC. portion of the crew. Last but certainly not least, the Florida contingent was in the house and ready to surf…we let everyone get the luggage in their rooms and have the afternoon to get settled into El Salvadorian life!

We kicked off the evenings activities with an introduction to the cast of characters and presented each of our guests with gift bags that contained all the necessities of a week long surf trip. The highlight of this gift bag was a BLADE in each guests size and the instructions to SURF STRONGER! The board short contains an inner compression that will allow them to experience the power, endurance and balance that our WCT Athletes depend on! Field testing the product in its intended conditions is the best way to ensure optimal product performance.

Monday brought us unbelievably fun waves with glassy conditions, most of the crew was on the 5:30 a.m. boat to Punta Mango where they were greeted with a crowded line up. Patience ultimately rewarded Cheyne Cottrell of IWS Deerfield Beach, FL Dave Speir O South Fl Rep and Rich Rudolph O Central Fl Rep when the inevitable shift change occurs, that allowed them to stay out for just about 6 hours. Talk about testing…that is exactly what Blade allows you to do! The snug fitting inner compression increases muscular endurance, power and recovery. I can honestly say that I haven’t seen a crew come back from 6 hours in the water still stoked and looking to recharge with lunch in order to get back in the water out front at Las Flores point. All the while George Davis from The Curl in Orlando, FL and Yogi took full advantage of the frothy travelers that jumped on the early boats to Mango. Opting to stay behind and have their choice of waves in front was definitely a good decision when the stories of a crowded line up, a feisty group of Brazilians team and multiple jelly fish stings made their way back to our beach front haven.

After each session everyone ran thru their download session so each tester could provide feedback on the product they used. A collaborative summary of product performance gets summarized. This helps the design team to make any changes needed.

Tune in for more stories from the field.
