Surfside Sports Snow Carnival

Handing out checks...or stickers

Surfside Sports stands as one of the last premier snow retailers in the southern califonia region that truly is committed to snowboarding. Each and every year Duke and his team kick off the snow season with an annual carnival. The SURFSIDE SPORTS SNOW CARNIVAL was bigger and better than ever this year. Oakley made it’s grand entrance by bringing out the ROLLING O LAB for it’s first ever stop there. The boys rolled up in the massive rig at 6 am in order to get it all set up.

The event kicked off right around 9 am and already there were some anxious Oakley fans milling around outside the rig. In groups of 6-10 we rolled people through the lab explaining the benefits of using Oakley performance eyewear both on and off of the hill. After the tour, participants took a quick quiz to validate what they had learned. They then received poker chips based on correct answers. The poker chips were then taken to the roulette table where contestants could place bets and win prizes ranging from t-shirts and beanies to goggles and complete outerwear kits. All in all we had 3 outerwear winners as well as a few goggle winners but everyone pretty much left with something.

While all of this was going on outside, we had an inside act as well. Oakley took over a section of the skate wall and turned it into the OAKLEY CUSTOM GOGGLE BAR. Here customers could choose a frame from splice, crowbar or a frame. Then they’d choose an appropriate lens as well as straps and outriggers if applicable. Behind the counter building the goggles were pro shreds: JP WALKER and JAKE BLAUVELT as well as Andy McCollum. Upon buying a custom goggle or a stock goggle, customers then received a quarter to place in the OAKLEY GUMBALL MACHINE where each customer received one spin. Everybody was winner in this thing and again prizes range from a week at HIGH CASCADE SNOWBOARD CAMP to hats and beanies.

To top it all off the grand finale of the SURFSIDE SNOW CARNIVAL is the raffle. Each brand donates prizes and customers hold onto their respective tickets that they’ve received throughout the day. The easiest and most obvious place to hold the raffle was of course on the staging area of the ROLLING O LAB.

All in all, after the dust cleared, The Surfside Snow Carnival was a huge success. Not only did tons of kids leave Surfside with all types of new gear but also with a new found knowledge of what separates Oakley’s goggles from everyone else’s. We would like to thank everyone who helped make this event so great, what a “cool” way to get the season started!
