Dana Point Grand Prix
For the fourth year in row, Oakley showed its strong support for one of the largest one-day national cycling events that just so happens to take place in our backyard. The Dana Point Grand Prix is the second stop on the National Racing Calendar (NRC) for domestic road cycling and consists of a flat, fast, 0.8 mile circuit course favoring sprinters. We have supported this event since its inception four years ago and have watched it grow from a small local event to what it is today.
This year, the Rolling O Lab was set out in prime real estate right next to the start/finish line. The crew, consisting of Nick, Kyle and Bryan, did an insane job hammering out O-Lab tours and demonstrating why our optics are superior. Aside from a couple dozen of my accounts, they did tours for the Marine Corp who volunteered for the event, the race promoter, the financial backer of the race, the public works supervisor for the city of Dana Point, and many of our Oakley athletes that were in attendance for the race. In addition, we were able to set up some live tours that were broadcast live on COX, the local cable provider. We also used the products that help secure vendor space as a raffle where all proceeds went to charity. We raised a lot of money for charity and we had constant plugs for the raffle from the announcers that really drove people to the Rolling O Lab for a tour.
This year surpassed my expectations of what we are capable of doing for an event like this. Oakley’s strong presence added to the overall success of the race and helped to promote the superiority of our product in my account base. I would like to acknowledge all of you who made it out to the event; it was awesome having your support out there. For those of you who were unable to make it this year, don’t miss it in 2011, it is a truly a great event.
