Spring Training Continues...

And the beat rolls on as the Rolling O Lab continued its 2010 tour of baseball’s annual introduction to its season known as Spring Training, this time would be in sunny Florida’s Grapefruit League.

The Lab’s first stop would to the Philadelphia Phillies Bright House Field in Clearwater as they would take on the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. The second game was a battle of the heavyweights as the two-time defending National League Champs would take on the 2009 World Series Champion Yankees and the fans came through the O Lab in droves to see what all the fuss was about. After the game a few Phillies players including perennial All-Star Ryan Howard, Placido Palanco and Greg Dobbs stopped by the truck to talk shop with the O Lab boys and get a few tips from Kyle Matias on High Definition Optics and how it has and continues to enhance their performance. As you can imagine the word spread quickly about the Howard and his crew being in the O Lab, so much to where he had to be escorted out of the truck by the O lab’s own Adam Racioppi and Jason ‘The Big Experience’ Jones.

Next up would be a stop for the ages as the crew worked alongside the most storied franchise in the history of sports, the 27 time and defending 2009 World Champion New York Yankees for three games at Yankee Stadium in Tampa as they hosted the Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers. For the first time ever we were able to get INSIDE the historic stadium and boy did it pay off as fans continually stopped in the O Lab to get educated on the technology behind Oakley eyewear while cheering their team on. The real treat for the fans and crew alike was having Hall of Famer and huge Oakley supporter, Goose Gossage, grace us with his presence. Goose gave two hours of his time to sign autographs outside of the truck and encouraged tomorrow’s future stars to take a vested interest in their eyes by wearing Oakley eyewear.

Well the excitement didn’t stop there as the greatest closer of all-time, Mariano Rivera paid a visit to the truck to get a full demonstration of the technology behind Oakley eyewear and to reaffirm why he’s been a fan of the brand for many years as he told us he ‘loves ‘ to wear his Oakleys while he shags fly balls during batting practice. Lastly, one of the most recognizable players in all of Major League Baseball, Joba Chamberlain, stopped by the Lab every day. Joba’s infectious personality can’t help but put a smile on people’s faces including both the fans and our crew as he tried on almost every piece of eyewear on the truck to get his ‘swag’ right. Once again word spread quickly and Joba left the truck to a sea of Yankee fans and he signed autographs for 45 minutes and several times yelled ‘Oakley is the best!’. Joining this list of superstars that came to visit the O Lab were current and former Yankee greats Ron Guidry, Tino Martinez, Phil Hughes, coach Tony Pena and skipper Joe Girardi.

Last stop for an amazing spring training would be at none other than the world famous Walt Disney World’s- ESPN Wide World of Sports facility with the Atlanta Braves in beautiful Orlando for two games as they hosted the New York Yankees and Houston Astros. Words can hardly explain the magnitude of how wonderful this facility is and Oakley’s impact there was not to be denied as we were set up right outside of the stadium as thousands of fans walked by and stopped in the Lab for the Braves largest crowd of spring training. The facility hosts year round events for youth sports and this spring training would be no different as several traveling baseball and softball teams from all over the country visited the O Lab to learn more about Oakley’s great products. Many of the coaches inquired about how they could get their team outfitted in custom made Oakleys for the future. First base coach and former Brave great Glenn Hubbard stopped by the O Lab to get an update on what’s going on with his favorite sunglass company and he rewarded several fans with an autograph while doing so.

All in all this concluded an epic spring training for Oakley as we continued to educate players, coaches, fans and media. Oakley was literally everywhere as evident by outfield and scoreboard signage as well continued in game public address announcements at all participating stadiums. As usual, a lucky fan at every stadium for every game was able to win a pair of Oakley MLB Flak Jackets of their favorite team.
