Oakley Rolls into Fort Carson
This past week the Oakley Rolling O Lab rolled into Fort Carson Colorado to give this side of the armed forces a chance to see the tests behind the products that they work with in the field everyday.
Fort Carson, the Mountain Post, is considered one of the world’s best locations to lead as well as train soldiers to win on the battlefield. Fort Carson is also located only one short mile away from NORAD. NORAD is responsible for providing the surveillance and control of the airspace of Canada and the United States as well as providing warning of air, missile, or space attack.
“Oakley’s partnership with the U.S. Armed Forces began in the 1980’s. The alliance was formed to develop new technologies that improve the safety, performance and comfort of our soldiers. This initiative in research and development continues to produce combat ready equipment for those whose lives depend on their gear.” says Oakley’s Dane Howell the Military Brand Manager. This all has lead to Oakley’s direct military and government website US Standard Issue.
As the website states, what started out as a few models has now turned into a highly specialized division with in Oakley at our headquarters in Foothill Ranch, California. These products are designed specifically for government customers and are not available in retail stores.
Throughout the day we were able to show many soldiers the different tests that we use to certify even our “civilian” eyewear to an industrial safety standard. We were especially honored to have both men and women from the 4th Infantry Division and the 10th Special Forces Group pass through the lab as well.
Everyone at Oakley would like to thank all of our troops and civil servants out there risking their lives for our safety and freedom everyday; we hope this website is one way we can show our appreciation.
I would also like to thank Mark “Pope” Popelka and Dane Howell for helping to make this such a great event.
You will be able to find the Oakley Rolling O Lab stopping at other military installations near you throughout 2010!
Until then be safe and we will see you there!
