Rolling-O Lab at the German Touring Car Championship in Hockenheim

Right in time for the final race of the DTM (German Touring Car Championship) season 2009, the Rolling O stopped at Hockenheim, a small city close to one of Germany’s most famous racetracks – the “Hockenheimring”, venue for both season opener and final.

Sports Marketing Manager Alex Rieger placed the lab in the paddock area which turned out to be the perfect spot to be amidst racing professionals, athletes, fans and Oakley dealers who popped in and out the lab during the 3 event days. German HDO expert Franz “Dolby” Greiter was busy all weekend demonstrating Oakley’s superior eyewear quality – far more than 500 people could witness his expertise, literally shoveled by our highly motivated Oakley hostess ladies Scarlett and Gina-Lisa.

On Saturday the O Lab crew could not believe their eyes when from 16:45 on people started to group around the lab, waiting for the signing session at 17:30. Audi pilots Martin Tomczyk, 2004 and 2007 champion Mattias Ekström and the moderator, model and Seat Supercopa racer Christina Surer stopped by to take their time for the fans and keenly signed everything they could lay their pens on. Christina willingly extended her signing time up to 25 minutes as absolutely everybody wanted to take a photo with the charming, fast & beautiful Swiss lady.

Sunday the grey and misty weather cleared up, and we could enjoy another highlight: The whole Oakley crew could enter the circuit to experience the starting grid at close range. The spirits were high as the cars finally sped off for their 39 laps at the 4,574 kilometers long circuit, while 155.000 spectators cheered their favorites. Gary Paffett won the final race on Mercedes, while Audi driver Timo Scheider defended his DTM title, making history for Audi with three titles in a row for the German brand.

A big shout-out to paddock manager Joachim “Joe” Franz for his patient support, Alex Rieger, Franz Greiter and the rest of the Oakley crew. We look forward to the DTM season 2010!
