That was Roc n’ Roll!
The 2009 Roc d’Azur at the French Mediterranean coast took place from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th October at the “Francois Létard” nature base in Fréjus. This former military air test center proved once more to be a great location for this famous mountain bike festivity.
A mountain bike trade show with a packed program including Dirt-, Trial- and BMX shows as well as top-class mountain bike races and competitions. The perfect playground for the Oakley Rolling O Lab! Amidst fans and professionals, French Oakley High Definition Optics specialist Anthony Dumesnil knew very well how to cater the very specific and technical questions of more than 500 sports enthusiasts who came to the Rolling O Lab to learn more on Oakley’s art and science.
Every event day at 5:30 pm sharp approximately 150 people impatiently waited in front of the Oakley trailer, keeping their fingers crossed to be the lucky winner for the Oakley Jawbone raffle. Oakley’s MTB icon Cedric Gracia was more than willing to grab the microphone and instantly turned the drawing into a show of pure fun and entertainment.
The atmosphere was amazing – busy but friendly and welcoming – and Saturday was definitely the highlight: Oakley’s 2 Olympic gold medalists, Anne Caroline Chausson and Julien Absalon, together with local hero Cedric Gracia and European Triathlon Champ Frédéric Belaubre came for a signing session which was extremely well attended. More than 30 minutes the four of them happily signed everything they could lay their hands on, postcards, t-shirts, helmets and even naked skin – and still weren’t tired to contribute their signature to the “Hall of Fame” in the O-Lab.
By nightfall we had a nice little party which soon started to grow when French Oakley Representative Grégory Hanquet wanted to put the O Lab’s sound system to the acid test – and he turned out to be a pretty good DJ. Plus, Cedric Gracia is equally skilled on bike and dancefloor!
Another event full of action and O-Lab experience, big shout out to Anthony, Grég and the French Sales team, David Hyam, Eric Minozzi, Marion and also a big “thank-you” to the O Lab crew!
