Oakley Triathletes, Celebs Compete in Malibu


Hundreds of athletes took part in the 23rd annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon Sunday. Several celebrities sported Oakley eyewear while racing, including Jon Cryer (Two 1/2 Men), Lisa Joyner, Thomas Ian Nicolas, Heather Tom (Soap star), Jason Lee (TV star), Matt Corboy (The Shield, NCIS), Eric Close (Gran Torino), Suzanne Rico, Nick Gonzalez, Eduardo Verastdgui, Terry Hatcher (Desperate Housewives) and Mario Lopez.

They topped their goal of raising $1 million for the Pediatric Cancer Research Program at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

Competitors swam a half-mile in the Pacific Ocean, followed by an 18-mile bike ride along the Pacific Coast Highway, and a four-mile run on pavement and sand in Zuma and Trancas beaches.

Oakley’s Stuart Hayes, 30, of the United Kingdom, won the men’s division, and Oakley’s Laura Bennett, a 34-year-old Australian living in Colorado, won the women’s division.

Disney CEO Bob Iger was there to present a $250,000 check to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. He also competed in the event as a relay participant.

ABC7’s own Phillip Palmer also participated in the event, along with several big Hollywood celebrities the likes of Terri Hatcher, Jennifer Lopez, Felicity Huffman, Mario Lopez and Matthew McConaughey.
