Oakley Invades the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk

It had been a while since we at Oakley attended or participated in the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk, so we figured that we would get together with our friends at BLENDS Los Angeles to put on the LA leg of the “Sunglasses at Night” tour, which showcased hand painted Oakley Hijinx sunglasses by students of The Art Institute of Los Angeles and The Art Institute of Hollywood. Doing this event was the right choice to say the least as it easily became one of the most memorable Oakley events of the year.

The last time we hooked up with the Blends, an event for the ages took place for the release of the extremely limited BLENDS x Oakley collaborative Frogskins. The shades sold out instantly and the event went about as good as it could get. The Sunglasses at Night tour has spanned so far across the Western part of the country Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas and finally ending in Los Angeles. Thousands of people filled the Old Bank District and its surrounding area that is rich in art galleries and as the hours went on the crowd got bigger and bigger. BLENDS was filled with people that came out to see the Artwork that the students displayed on Oakley Hijinx as well as see the Artists that Oakley has worked with in our Limited Edition Artist Series sunglasses. Some heavy hitters were in attendance such as emerging art star Tofer Chin, The Berrics’ Salman Agah, Love and Guts creator Pat Ngoho, SlamxHype editor and THE NEW ORDER magazine contributor Nick Estrada, the lovely Ida Kay from DC Lifestyle and many more came out to support our efforts. Red Bull and Budweiser provided the drinks and DJ Dax was in attendance making the atmosphere perfect. The night capped off with the announcement of the Winners of the contest. The student’s faculty and art lovers were all pleased with the outcome of an amazing night.

And the Winners are:
1st place- Jesus Arevalo, The Art Institute of California – Hollywood
2nd place- David Zajdman, The Art Institute of California – Los Angeles
3rd place- Gabriela Altamirano, The Art Institute of California – Hollywood
4th place- Jaimie Mullens, The Art Institute of California – Hollywood

Special thanks to Both Art Institutes, Miwa Kozuki, Michelle Estrellado, Sarah Carlson, The Blends crew and everyone that showed support.

If for some reason you missed out, check out the photo gallery and be sure to set your calendars for the next Art Walk, which takes places every second Thursday of every month.
