Oakley Announces Official Eyewear Sponsorship of The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series


Oakley will be the Official Eyewear Sponsor of the 2009 Rock n’ Roll Marathon Series, which includes nine running events across the country.

Oakley chose the largest marathon series in the world to spread the word about High Definition Optics and promote its Sport Performance eyewear, specifically Oakley Radar, Flak Jacket, Enduring and Thump Pro sunglasses.

“We’re really taking the next step in educating our runners about the importance of quality eye protection, and saw Oakley as a natural partner in that pursuit,” said John Smith, Senior Vice-President of CGI. “We want to ensure health in all aspects of our participants’ lifestyles, and eye protection during outdoor activity is at the top of the list. Oakley’s interactive expo and finish line displays will be great resources for both our participants and staff to protect themselves while having fun.”

Athletes looking for the best in performance gear can expect excellence from Oakley’s Sport Performance eyewear, which features a revolutionary Hydrophobic lens coating that repels water, skin oils and dust. The interchangeable lens design adapts to any sport environment, including the demanding world of marathon running.

Each Rock ‘n’ Roll event draws 15,000 to 30,000 participants, and more than 100,000 consumers tour the events’ signature Health & Fitness Expos, where Oakley will be selling its Sport Performance eyewear. Oakley’s mobile research and development facility, the Rolling O Lab, will be on site at several of the races’ finish lines to educate consumers about the company’s High Definition Optics.

Oakley first partnered with the Competitor Group in 2007, when a sponsorship of the Rock n’ Roll Series helped to bolster sales of its Sports Performance eyewear.
